LP Thate - Way of Practice

A Buddhist Adage
- when the Cita still has causes and conditions
- (Avijjā, Tanhā, Upadāna and Kamma) it must be
- born in various realms of existence and
- experience Dukkha again and again.

  • In Order to Abolish Avijjā, Tanhā, Upadāna and Kamma (p7)
    • one must train oneself to forsake vices that may
    • be committed by way of body and speech.
      • a BHIKKHU (monk) must maintain the 227
      • precepts of the Patimokkha discipline also
      • Ajiva Parisuddhi Sila (Purity of Livelihood)
      • Indriya Samvara Sila (Restraint of the Sense Faculties)
      • and Paccaya Sannissita Sila (Restrai in using
      • and consuming the 4 Requisites ie, robes, food, shelter
      • and medicines.
      • This is in accorrdance with the ordinances of the
      • Lord Buddha
    • If Sila is not maintained purely, then the Cita is still not suitable to receive training...
    • ... ... One could consider that such a Cita has not yet
    • come to the Triple Gem (The Buddha, The Teachings
    • of The Buddha (Dhamma) and the Community of
    • Monks (Sangha)
  • The Three Admonitions
    • (This refers to: giving up evil; promoting good - and purifying one's heart.) (the basis of the Lord Buddha's
    • teaching) or the Eightfold Path must first be established in Sila. Thus, according to the Lord Buddha's teachings,
    • Sila is the beginning of BRAMHACARIYA.

The Three Admonitions

  • or The Noble Eight Fold Path
    • Established Sila
    • Then Can train the Citta in the development
    • of Jhāna/Samādhi (which is referred to as Samatha).
    • The when the Citta is is steadfast and experience,
    • one can develop Vipassanā (with the aid of
    • Tilakkhana-ñāna as its basis) until one sees
    • clearly with pure Ñānadassana. One will then have
    • reached Vimutti, freedom from all Kilesa
    • and unwholesome Dhammas.
